LC Softball Splits Pair at Salisbury Tourney

SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College softball team split a pair of games Friday afternoon at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Classic.

Freshman Amber Ingram gave the Hornets a fine pitching performance in the opener, a 3-2 win over Stevenson University. She worked the whole seven innings, allowing just two hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out six Mustangs.  After two outs in the bottom of the first, senior Meagan Fredenberg singled and scored on a two-run blast to centerfield from senior shortstop Taylor Walker. The Hornets' third senior, Sarah Smith, singled to lead off the second frame and scored on an RBI single from Kacey Clary. SU scored its runs in the third inning aided by an LC error, but Ingram allowed just one base-runner in the final four innings. Walker finished with two hits for Lynchburg.

D'Youville College (NY) defeated Lynchburg 4-3 in the second game of the day. LC led 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two Hornet errors. Smith went 2-3 with a home run and two runs scored, and Walker had two hits, including a double. Melanie Tenney had a double and also walked. Hope Johnson started and threw five innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

Lynchburg (5-9) is scheduled to play Shenandoah (10 a.m.) and Arcadia (noon) on Saturday.
