Hornet Softball Takes Two at Salisbury Tourney
SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College softball team concluded the Salisbury University Sea Gull Tournament Saturday with a pair of non-conference victories.
The Hornets got fine pitching performances from two freshmen in the first game, a 2-0 win over Shenandoah University. Amber Ingram started the game and worked 3.1 innings, scattering five hits and two walks, but allowed no runs. Kaitlyn Morris earned the win in relief, going 3.2 innings with two strikeouts and giving up just two hits and one walk. LC got all of the offense it needed in the bottom of the third on a two-out single from freshman Amber Sulter, scoring Ingram and Taylor Walker.
Denise Mitchell and Lauren McCabe each had two hits for Shenandoah (6-3).
Lynchburg defeated Arcadia University (PA) 8-3 in the second game of the day. Freshman Hope Johnson got the win, going four innings and allowing two hits, three walks and two earned runs. Cassie Phillips pitched well out of the bullpen, giving up four hits and one earned run over three innings.
The Hornets scored one run in the top of the first and exploded for four in the third, fueled by a two-run home run by senior Meagan Fredenberg. Fredenberg finished the game 3-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Michaela Munday and Amanda Parker also had two hits for LC.
Lynchburg (7-9) is scheduled to be off for the next week and a half, returning to action at Randolph College Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m.
