Hornet Softball Sweeps Sweet Briar 11-0 and 9-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team scored in every inning Tuesday as the Hornets swept Sweet Briar College 11-0 and 9-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader. Both games only lasted five innings.
Sophomore Cassie Phillips and freshman Amber Ingram combined for a no hitter in the opener, striking out 10 Sweet Briar batters. LC scored three runs in the first and second innings and plated two runs in the third and fourth to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
Freshman Jessi Hall led the way offensively, going 3-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI. Sophomore Melanie Tenney went 3-4 with three runs scored, and freshman Amber Ingram, senior Taylor Walker and freshman Brooke Sigrist each had two hits.
The Hornets scored two runs in the first inning of game two as Walker doubled in a run and LC had four hits in the frame. Walker again drove in a run in the second to make it 3-0 and freshman Skylar Seals hit a two-run homer in the third to make the score 5-0. Sophomore Amanda Parker drove in a run in the fourth and two Vixen errors helped LC score three more in the fifth.
Lynchburg (18-16/9-5) travels to Roanoke College for an ODAC doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. The games will be held at Lord Botetourt High School.
