Two Hornet Teams Ranked in Top-25 Nationally
LYNCHBURG, VA – With the spring seasons in full swing, two Lynchburg College athletic teams find themselves ranked nationally. The men's lacrosse team currently sits as the sixth-ranked team in the nation and the softball team earned the 23rd spot this week.
The men's lacrosse team has only lost one game on the year, coming in this week with a 6-1 overall record. They have been ranked in the top-20 all year after entering the season in the ninth spot and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) had them move up two spots this past week after defeating McDaniel and Guilford last week. LC ranks top-three in several statistical categories in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
The softball team moves into the top-25 since the spring of 2009. With an overall record of 13-4, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) sought fit to rank the team 23rd. Lynchburg has upset Salisbury and Christopher Newport for three of its wins this year. Several Hornets rank in the top-50 in individual statistical categories as well. Pitcher Hope Johnson is 41st in earned run average (2.22) and 36th in strikeouts per seven innings (5.8). Jessi Hall is first in the nation in triples, as she has hit six on the year.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action this weekend as they travel to Bridgewater College for the first time on Sunday. The first face-off will begin at 1 p.m. The softball team hosts Mary Washington University in a double-header on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
