LC Softball Knocked Out of ODAC Tournament
SALEM, VA – The 19th-ranked Lynchburg College softball team was defeated twice Saturday and was eliminated from the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament, held at the Moyer Sports Complex.
Top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College took an early lead and cruised to a 7-1 victory over Lynchburg Saturday afternoon in the finals of the winner's bracket.
The Marlins started off the second frame with three-straight singles and plated two runs. VWC opened a 5-0 lead in the third on a three-run home run from Season Dailey and added another tally in the fourth. LC got on the scoreboard in the seventh, as a Melanie Tenney single scored Jessi Hall.
MacKenzie Creech finished what she started in the circle, scattering six walks and four hits for her 20th victory of the season. Dailey and Tori Higginbotham each had three hits for VWC (37-6), while Riley reached base three times for LC.
Shenandoah University took advantage of six LC errors and held to defeat Lynchburg in an elimination game Saturday evening, 8-6.
SU scored three runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Lynchburg cut the edge to 5-2 with an unearned run in the bottom half of the third, but Shenandoah pushed across two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-2. LC rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, fueled by run-scoring doubles from Nicole Shipp and Tenney. SU added an insurance run in the seventh and Lynchburg went down 1-2-3 to end the game.
Tenney ripped two doubles in the game and drove in two runs. Lauren McCabe went 4-4 for Shenandoah (28-17) with four RBI.
Lynchburg (32-11) awaits a possible at-large bid into the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, to be announced Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m.
