All-ODAC Softball Awards Released; Dawn Simmons Named Coach of the Year

FOREST, VA – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its 2013 all-conference softball team Tuesday, and Lynchburg College's Dawn Simmons was honored as the Coach of the Year. Four other Lynchburg College student-athletes earned all-conference honors, including Cassie Phillips as the first-team designated player.

The Hornets finished 21-19 in 2012 and have improved to a post 32-11 record so far this spring. With just one senior on the roster, Simmons' squad finished 15-5 in the ODAC regular season and earned the #2 seed in the conference tournament. LC is ranked #19 in NCAA Division III and Simmons captured her 400th-career win at mid-season.

Phillips, the program's lone senior, had an outstanding campaign. In 20 ODAC starts, she hit .400 with six home runs, 21 RBI and a .767 slugging percentage. She also threw 17.1 innings in the circle in conference games, with a 2.02 ERA and one save.

Hope Johnson, Melanie Tenney and Jessi Hall each were named to the All-ODAC third-team. Johnson posted a 16-4 record with a 1.94 ERA this year, with 11 complete games and a league-high two saves. Tenney moved from centerfield to second base this year and responded by making just four errors for a .975 fielding percentage. She has a .373 batting average, a .445 on-base percentage, 25 RBI and 22 runs. Hall ranks third in the league in runs scored (49) and is first in triples (7). She is hitting .333 for the season with 19 stolen bases and a .417 on-base percentage.

Lynchburg awaits a possible at-large bid into the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, to be announced Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m.
