LC Softball Earn Bid to NCAA Tournament; Play Piedmont in Salem, Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The NCAA released the Division III Softball tournament field on Monday, and Lynchburg College discovered it will be heading to familiar territory later this week.  LC earned the three-seed at the Salem, VA regional, which is the same site as last weekend's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament.

The Hornets earned a Pool C (at-large) bid to the national tournament after finishing the season 32-11 overall, and 15-5 in conference.  Lynchburg will take on another at-large qualifier in the first round of the double-elimination tournament in Piedmont College.  The game will be 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The Lions went 31-8, going 19-3 in the USA South Conference, before being ousted in the league tournament.  The two schools were supposed to meet at the Methodist Early Bird Tournament in February, but the schedules were changed due to weather.

In Salem, LC will see very familiar competition at the regional.  Fellow ODAC foe Roanoke College received an at-large bid as well.  The Maroons will be the five-seed and take on Christopher Newport University in the first round.  Lynchburg swept the Captains during a double-header in March.  Salisbury University received the number-one seed in the region.  The Hornets split a double-header with the Sea Gulls back in early March, with SU winning game two in nine innings.

Virginia Wesleyan College was the final ODAC school to be in the field of 62.  The Marlins won the ODAC title in 19 innings last week and will be heading to the Montclair, NJ regional as the three-seed.
