Three Hornets Receive All-Region Accolades
LOUISVILLE, KY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently released their all-region selections and Lynchburg College softball senior Cassie Phillips, junior Melanie Tenney, and sophomore Jessi Hall find themselves on the third-team.
Phillips was a dangerous hitter for the Hornets from her designated hitter position. She led Lynchburg with six homeruns while batting .306 and driving in 26 RBI, the second-highest mark on the team. Showing her versatility, Phillips also pitched in 18 games to the tune of a 3.28 ERA, winning two games and collecting a save.
Tenney was a big asset to the Hornets in her junior campaign, leading the squad with a .367 batting average. She was second on the team with seven doubles and ten walks, while finishing third with 25 RBI. She added a smooth glove in the field, only committing four errors in 161 total chances.
Hall rounds out the Hornet selections after a season that saw her near the top of the national leaderboard in triples, finishing tied for seventh with seven three-baggers. The speedy outfielder made an impact on the base paths as well, swiping 21 bases to lead the team in that category. She continually managed to be in the correct place in left field, making just two errors in 64 total chances while recording three outfield assists.
The Hornets finished their season with a record of 32-13 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2009 campaign.
