LC Sweeps Doubleheader against Wilkes, 22-1 and 12-2
SALISBURY, MD - The Lynchburg College softball team breezed to a pair of victories Friday against Wilkes University (PA) in contests played in Salisbury, MD at the Henry S. Parker Complex.
The Hornet bats slugged 21 hits in a 22-1 victory in five innings in the opener. LC plated three runs in the first and third frames, five in the second and 11 in the fourth inning. Kayla St. John went 3-4 with four RBI and two runs and Danielle Powell was 3-5 with three runs and three RBI. Skylar Seals was 2-4 with three RBI, and Jessi Hall, Melanie Tenney, Jessica Murphy and Nicole Shipp each had two base hits. Amber Sulter drove in three runs and Amber Ingram drove in two and Lauren Smith scored twice. Hope Johnson earned the win with three solid innings in the circle and Katie Maddox threw two innings of scoreless relief.
Jordan Borger provided the offense for Wilkes, leading off the game with a solo home run.
The Hornets won the second contest 12-2, also in five innings. LC scored a single run in the first, four in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth. Tenney went 4-4 with two doubles and five RBI. Powell was 2-4 with three RBI, Ingram was 2-2 with a home run and Olivia Donahue and Shipp each had two hits.
Elizabeth Fioretti worked five innings for the win, allowing two runs in the final inning with six strikeouts.
Alysha Bixler hit a two-run home run for the Colonels (0-2).
LC (7-1) faces Rutgers-Newark Saturday at 1 p.m. in another non-conference twin-bill at Salisbury.
