Lynchburg Softball Splits at Randolph College
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Thursday at Randolph College, winning the first game 10-0 in five innings but dropping the nightcap 4-2.
Junior Hope Johnson earned the shutout win for LC in game one, tossing 4.1 innings of three-hit ball with no walks and two strikeouts. Lynchburg led 2-0 after three innings and put the game away with three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth, aided by five WildCat errors. Junior Jessi Hall went 2-2 with a walk, a double and three runs scored, while sophomore Danielle Powell was 2-4 with two RBI. Nicole Riley and Michaela Munday scored twice.
LC trailed 4-1 after five full frames in game two, but trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the sixth and had two runners on with two outs in the top of the seventh. Riley hit a line drive to right field that was ruled a catch by the diving Randolph right fielder, Jackie Lamberty, to end the threat.
Hall and Melanie Tenney each had two hits for the Hornets, as did Hannah Cook and Patti Vinson of Randolph. Hannah Winfree scattered five hits and five walks to earn the win in the circle for RC (16-8/4-2 ODAC).
The Hornets (16-8/4-3 ODAC) travel to ODAC foes Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Wesleyan College this weekend. They are scheduled to square off with the Yellow Jackets Saturday at 1:30 and Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Marlins. VWC is ranked #7 in the most recent top 25 Division III poll, while LC received votes.
