#2 LC Advances in ODAC Tournament with 7-2 Win over E&H
SALEM, VA - The second-seeded Lynchburg College softball team defeated #7 Emory & Henry College Friday evening 7-2 in a first-round match-up in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. The first pitch of the contest was delayed by over five and a half hours as storms swept through the central Virginia area.
The Hornets struck quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Nicole Riley walked, and Melanie Tenney and Danielle Powell followed with singles to load the bases with one out. Kayla St. John lofted a sacrifice fly to plate the game's first run, and Amber Ingram followed with a three-run blast to right center to put Lynchburg ahead 4-0. LC added another tally in the second as Nicole Shipp scored on a Melanie Tenney fielder's choice.
The Wasps got on the scoreboard in the fifth when Roxanne Hillman delivered a two-run home run. The Hornets added two insurance runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Tenney and a single from Powell.
Ingram went the distance in the circle for LC, allowing seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts to move her record to 15-3 on the season. Jessi Hall had three singles and a stolen base, and Powell added a pair of hits.
Hillman and Hannah Bays each had two hits for Emory & Henry (23-14).
Lynchburg (29-12) will square off with #6 Guilford College Saturday at 1 p.m. as a part of the eight-team, double elimination tournament.
