Hornets Stage Second Half Rally, fall 60-57 to Methodist in Home Opener
LYNCHBURG, VA –The Lynchburg College women's basketball team staged a valiant comeback in the last ten minutes of the second half Tuesday night but it was not enough as the Hornets fell to Methodist 60-57 in the home opener for LC.
The Hornets were down 16 points with 11:35 remaining in the game when a timeout changed the tide of the game. Senior Shea Kelley entered the action and scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the Monarch lead to 12. A three-pointer by freshman Sammi Goldsmith cut the lead to nine 18 seconds later.
The teams went back and forth over the next two minutes with Methodist clinging to a 56-47 advantage. Goldsmith scored four more points to cut the lead to five at 56-51.
Forbush led the Hornets with a career-high 14 points. Goldsmith added 11, all coming in the second half. Sophomore Lauren Penley collected 10 points while hauling in a team-high nine rebounds.
T.T. Taylor led Methodist (1-2) with 17 points. Christina Schrader was the only other Monarch in double-figures with 14.
Lynchburg (1-2) plays at home against Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, November 27 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
