Shea Kelley Drills Three-Pointer at Buzzer to Give LC Women 43-41 Win at William Peace
RALEIGH, NC – Senior guard Shea Kelley drilled a three-pointer as time expired Sunday to lift the Lynchburg College women's basketball team to thrilling 43-41 win at William Peace University in non-conference play.
The Pacers led 24-22 at halftime and held a slim advantage for most of the second half. The Hornets took a 39-37 lead with 5:26 left after back-to-back three pointers from freshman guard Sammi Goldsmith and sophomore forward Shannon Allan. Peace regained the lead and had a one-point edge in the closing seconds. LC was forced to foul, but the Pacers missed the front end of a one-and-one with six seconds left and the Hornets called timeout. With 5.1 seconds on the game clock and having to travel the length of the floor, Allan received the in-bounds pass at mid-court and found a wide-open Kelley in the right corner for the buzzer beater.
Allan led all scorers with 20 points, and added six rebounds and four assists. Kelley hit three three-pointers and ended with 10 points off the bench while Goldsmith had eight points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Caleigh Patterson snared a team-high eight rebounds and sophomore Lauren Penley and freshman Sarah Coon each grabbed six.
The Hornet defense allowed William Peace to shoot just 26 percent from the field for the game (15-58). Crystal Alston provided a team-high 11 points for the Pacers (2-4), and Callie Yohn had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Krystal Williams also had 10 points.
The Hornets (3-3) host Hollins University Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.
