Shannon Allan Scores 23 as LC Women Defeat NC Wesleyan 67-59
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Sophomore forward Shannon Allan scored a game-high 23 points Sunday afternoon as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team posted its fifth-straight victory, 67-59, at North Carolina Wesleyan College in non-conference action.
The Hornets opened a healthy 15-point lead (24-9) midway through the first half, but the Battling Bishops fought back to take a 32-31 advantage just before halftime. Allan drilled a three-pointer to give Lynchburg the lead entering intermission.
LC led most of the second half but couldn't extend the advantage to double digits. The Hornet defense limited NCWC to just one basket and only three points in the final 5:44 of play to seal the victory, and that hoop was a layup with seven seconds remaining on the game clock.
Allan also contributed five rebounds and four steals. Freshman Sammi Goldsmith had nine points, five rebounds and four assists, while sophomore Katie Reeves and freshman Sarah Tolliver each had seven points. Freshman Sarah Coon added six points and seven rebounds.
Tiffany Bell paced N.C. Wesleyan (3-5) with 14 points. Shanice Goree and Derreon Cole had 12 and 10 points, respectively and Samantha Urquhart grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Lynchburg enjoyed a 50-39 rebounding edge.
Lynchburg (7-3) hosts Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Bridgewater College at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
