Virginia Wesleyan Rallies for 57-53 win over LC Women
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Virginia Wesleyan College women's basketball team rallied Tuesday night to defeat Lynchburg College 57-53 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.
Hornet sophomore forward Lauren Penley contributed nine points and five rebounds in the first half as LC entered intermission ahead 29-28.
The Hornets used a 5-0 run on a lay-up and three free throws from sophomore Shannon Allan, to take a 43-38 lead with under 10 minutes to play. Lynchburg opened the lead even further to 49-43 with 5:21 on the game clock before the Marlins took over. The VWC defense held LC to just four points the remainder of the way, and used a 7-0 run to take control. LC missed a contested three-pointer with 13 seconds left to take the lead, and Virginia Wesleyan sealed the game with two free throws by Kelly Jones with nine ticks left to play.
Penley finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, hitting all six of her free throws. Allan netted a team-best 15 points and added eight rebounds and senior guard Shea Kelley hit a pair of three pointers and ended with eight points. Sophomore guard Katie Reeves had six points, five rebounds and four assists.
Sarah Seipp scored a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds for Virginia Wesleyan (16-8/11-4). Katie Tassa tied Penley for a game-high 11 rebounds and Brittany Glasco had nine points.
The Hornets (15-9/9-6) ODAC) travel to Randolph-Macon College Saturday for another ODAC matchup at 4 p.m.
