Hornets Claim Two ODAC Athletes of the Week
FOREST, VA – Lynchburg College had two of its student-athletes earn Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athlete of the Week honors this week; Shannon Allan in women's basketball and Wil Parson from the baseball team.
Allan led the surging Hornet women's basketball team to a pair of ODAC victories last week, averaging 25 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. She netted 22 of her game-high 25 points after intermission Wednesday in LC's 69-61 come-from-behind victory over Guilford College. She hit five of her seven three-point attempts and snared seven rebounds in the contest. Allan again scored 25 points at Bridgewater College Saturday in a thrilling 79-78 road win. She drilled the game-winning three-pointer with 11 seconds left in the game, and also added six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
For the season she ranks fifth in the conference in scoring (15.7 ppg), fourth in free-throw percentage (85%), sixth in three-point shooting percentage (35%) and seventh in blocked shots (0.9 bpg). LC (13-8/10-2 ODAC) hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in another important ODAC clash, and is Lynchburg's Play 4 Kay game – an opportunity to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research.
Parsons, the ODAC Baseball Player of the Week, opened the 2014 baseball season on fire to help the Hornets sweep a doubleheader Friday at Averett University. The third baseman went 6-of-8 at the plate, with six runs scored, two doubles and three RBI in the two games. Thus far he has a .750 batting average, a .778 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage on the young season.
Lynchburg (2-0) travels to the Methodist Diamond Invitational next weekend for three games. The Hornets face Christopher Newport University (0-0) Friday at noon.
