Lynchburg earned its first ever NCAA Tournament victory after defeating Catholic, 69-64, to advance to the Second Round.

Game Breakdown

- Senior Charmaine Hairston led the Hornets with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists

- A balanced scoring attack included junior Caroline Naumann who had 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocked Cardinal shots

- Sophomore Molly Shephard had a breakout performance with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks while junior Brittany Afolabi-Brown was a spark off the Hornet bench as she recorded six points and seven rebounds

- Dominating in the paint was the difference for Lynchburg as they held held a 34-24 point advantage over Catholic
- Friday evening was a back and forth battle as the game featured eight lead changes and six ties
- Catholic tied the game at 64 with just 1:10 left but the Hornets held strong, ending the game on a 5-0 run to hold on for the win.

Beyond the Stat Sheet

Following this evening's victory over Catholic, the Hornets advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the farthest any team has gone into the Tournament in program history.
