Hairston Named To All-South Region Team


Lynchburg, Va. -- The All-Region Teams were announced on Monday and senior Charmaine Hairston was honored, being named to Third-Team All-South Region. This is the second consecutive year that a Lynchburg Women's Basketball player has earned All-Region recognition, Chaney Forbush earned Third Team after the 2015-16 season.

Hairston adds the All-Region honors to other accolades she as already earned this season including First-Team All-ODAC. She was the floor general for the Hornets this season, helping the team to a 23-7 overall record, including a 14-2 mark in the conference.

The senior guard finished this season with career highs in games started (29), minutes (30.0), FG/FG% (460/40.3%), 3PT/3PT% (49/31.8%), and points (387). She reached 1,000 career points after scoring the second most points in a game in Lynchburg Women's Basketball history with 34 against Averett on Dec. 11. The Rocky Mount, Va. also broke the single-season record for 3PTs after draining 49 treys this season and is now the all-time leader in the 3PT made, finishing her career with 139 made shots from beyond the arc.

The Sociology major passed her coach to finish 6th all-time on the scoring list, finishing with 1253 points and finished t-5th all time for field goals made with 460. Hairston lands 4th all-time in steals after pickpocketing opponents 178 times in her four years as a Hornet.
