Women's hoops handles Franklin & Marshall

Salem, Va. -- Senior forward Caroline Naumann (Mechanicsville, Va.) collected her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead Lynchburg College's women's basketball team to a 72-52 win over Franklin & Marshall on Sunday in Roanoke College's Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic.

Junior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) added 19 points, nine boards, and three blocks. Shephard and Naumann were named to the all-tournament team, and Shephard was dubbed the Most Outstanding Player.

Senior wing Brittany Afolabi-Brown (Montgomery Village, Md.) tacked on 14 points and six rebounds in the win.

Kristin Hamill led the Diplomats with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

- The Hornets took control early on when Afolabi-Brown and Naumann began the game with a 10-0 run. LC led 20-14 after the first period.

- Lynchburg extended the lead to 44-29 at halftime.

- Senior guard Olivia DeFrancesco (Greensboro, N.C.) nailed a pair of third-quarter 3s to bring her career total to 124, lifting her to a tie for second in program history in the category.



Lynchburg returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with a trip across town to Randolph College. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
