Lesley Buckingham Breaks Two School Records as LC Defeats SBC 21-8
SWEET BRIAR, VA – Senior attack Lesley Buckingham scored six goals and assisted on five others to break two school records Friday afternoon as the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team defeated Sweet Briar College 21-8 in an Old Dominion athletic Conference matchup.
Buckingham broke the LC program record for most points and goals in a career, both previously held by Donna Hansen '91. In four seasons, Buckingham has 192 goals and 73 assists for 265 points.
Freshman Ryland Scott opened the scoring for LC 30 seconds into the game, but Vixen Olivia hurt answered a minute later. The Hornets opened a 9-5 lead with 10 minutes in the first half, before scoring the next five times to put the game out of reach, including four from Buckingham.
Junior Kendall Adkin found the back of the net four times and sophomore Bri Slate and junior Sarah Shannon each had two goals and two assists. Junior Julie Will also scored twice and Scott and Carley Dobson each had a goal and an assist. Paige Gadsby, Kat Miller and Shannon Brockley each also scored on the afternoon.
Hailey Bossert and Christina Tran combined to make seven saves in net for LC. Sophomore Brianna LaMarca caused five turnovers and scooped four ground balls and Buckingham gathered in nine draw controls.
Hurt had four scores and Kimberly Orchow tallied a goal and four assists for SBC (4-12/1-8 ODAC). Sheanne Weekes complied six draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Lynchburg (10-6/7-2 ODAC) enters the six-team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament next week. Seedings and match-up will be set after the conclusion of the regular season, Monday, April 23.
