Roanoke Rallies for 13-11 Win over LC Women
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team scored five-straight times late in the second half to rally for a 13-11 victory over Lynchburg College Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The game was tight the entire 60 minutes, with no team going ahead by more than three scores. Roanoke scored to start the game but Katherine Francis netted back-to-back tallies to give LC a 2-1 lead. Sarah Shannon and Carley Dobson scored soon thereafter to tie the game at four all, but the Maroons went back ahead 6-4. Francis scored twice to end the scoring in the first half with the teams tied at six.
RC took a 7-6 lead three minutes into the second half, but four straight LC goals from Dobson, Bri Slate, Francis and Caroline Kilby gave Lynchburg a 10-7 advantage with 15:56 remaining. Darragh Evarts scored three times in Roanoke's 5-0 run to take control of the game. Julie Will brought LC back within one with 2:12 left but LC couldn't convert on a late scoring chance to tie the game.
Francis finished with five scores for Lynchburg and Dobson had two. Katie Seidel assisted on two other goals and Julie Will caused three turnovers and snared three draw controls.
Evarts had five goals, two assists and five draw controls for Roanoke (7-6/6-1 ODAC), while Allison Bonanno and Nicole Zelnik each posted three goals and an assist.
The Hornets (7-6/4-4) make the short trek across town to Randolph College Saturday for another ODAC game at 1 p.m.
