Women's lacrosse ousts Roanoke from ODAC tournament

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team celebrated a 10-7 victory against the sixth-seeeded Roanoke Maroons in the first round of the ODAC tournament Tuesday afternoon on Shellenbeger Field.

Sophomore attackmen Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) and Carly Sandler (Kennebunk, Maine) each collected three goals, one assist, and a ground ball. Senior attackman Sidney Gleason (Dumfries, Va.) earned two goals for the Hornets and had one assist. Senior midfielder Dorrie MacGregor (Centreville, Md.) won eight draw controls against the Maroons and picked up two ground balls to go along with one assist.



Final: Lynchburg 10, Roanoke 7

Records: Lynchburg (9-7, 6-3 ODAC), Roanoke (8-8, 3-6 ODAC)

  • Lynchburg and Roanoke fought it out for the lead in the first half until a goal by Gleason assisted by Sandler put Lynchburg ahead, 3-2. The Hornets secured their lead after two quick goals scored by McGregor and junior attackman Alicia Sandoval (Montclair, Va.). Lynchburg went into the break ahead of Roanoke, 7-2.

  • After four consecutive goals by Roanoke early in the second half cut the Lynchburg lead to 8-6, Trevisan broke the trend and scored on a free-position shot. LC tacked on another -- Gleason's second -- on MacGregor's assist.



The Hornets will face second-seeded Randolph-Macon on Saturday, May 5 in the semifinal round of the ODAC tournament at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. The time of that match is yet to be determined.
