LC Women's Soccer Team Travels to Costa Rica

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team is traveling to Costa Rica for a nine-day trip from July 23-31.

The team will spend the first two days in the capital city, San Jose, where they will participate in a training session, before playing the U17 Costa Rican Women's National Team the following day.

Upon the completion of the game, the team will depart from San Jose and travel to San Carlos, where they will take part in two team activities, white water rafting and a Canopy Zip-Line tour through the rainforest. Along with the team's adventure activities, the coaching staff will have the opportunity to conduct several training sessions and team runs to prepare for the two remaining games in Costa Rica and the upcoming 2013 season.

The Hornets will then depart from the rainforest and make its way to the coastline for a beach resort in Guanacaste. From July 27-29, the squad will have the opportunity to take part in several activities. The team will lead a community service project, where they will play soccer with local children from the surrounding area that live in economically challenging conditions. Along with the service project the team will train and play a game against a local club team, Liberia, before going on a catamaran tour. They will be able to enjoy snorkeling and swimming, while having the opportunity to relax on a secluded beach.

After a relaxing time at the beach, the team will return to San Jose for the final two days of the trip. They will take part in another community service project and play their final game against the U20 Costa Rican Women's National Team.

"Pura vida! Means that no matter what your current situation is, life for someone else can always be less fortunate than your own. So you need to consider that maybe...just maybe, your situation isn't all that bad and that no matter how little or how much you have in life, we are all here together and life is start living it "pura vida style".

"We like to ingrain this concept to our women's soccer athletes.  Life is good and we must maximize every possible moment.  Our adventure to Costa Rica will allow to explore the Pura Vida life and bring it back to Lynchburg College.   Each day our mantra will be to make that day the very best that we can in our relationship with our teammate and by playing soccer with freedom and joy—Pura Vida Soccer!" – Head Coach Todd Olsen.
