#9 Lynchburg Outlasts Weather, Salisbury for Win

Salem, VA – The 9th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team had to outlast a weather delay in the first half, and Salisbury University in the second half to capture a 2-1 victory in the Roanoke College Kickoff Tournament Saturday.

The match had barely started before weather hit, resulting in a lengthy delay. The game scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. did not finish until slightly before 7 p.m. It took over four hours and all three goals were scored in three minutes, but the Hornets came away with a big win.

The Hornets put the first tally on the scoreboard in the 72nd minute following a corner kick by Kelley Smith. Seeing her first collegiate action, Smith sent the corner right where Angela Bosco could head it into the goal.

Lynchburg's lead did not last long as Salisbury responded 22 seconds later when Logan O'Meara put Marissa Walker's pass into the right side of the goal.

Dessi Dupuy took over third-place in Lynchburg women's soccer history with career goal number 55 with 15 minutes remaining. Bosco centered the ball on a nice cross to Dupuy to set up the game-winning score.

The Hornet trio of defenders, Rachel Sadowski, Tori Dott, and Natalie Deacon held the Sea Gulls at bay, allowing four shots on goal, two of which were saved by Tess Frelick, starting her first game in net.

Michelle Conrad made 10 saves for Salisbury (0-1).

Lynchburg (1-0) will conclude tournament play Sunday against Birmingham-Southern College (0-1) at noon.
