Dessi Dupuy Posts Hat Trick as LC WS Downs EMU 12-1 to Advance in ODAC Tourney
LYNCHBURG, VA – The top-seeded Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 12-1 Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.
It took the Hornets just 10 minutes to get on the scoreboard, but when they did, LC found the back of the net three times in quick succession. Junior Dessi Dupuy scored an unassisted goal at 10:02 and fired in another score just 41 seconds later on a feed from Jenn Snyder. LC struck again at 11:25 as Dupuy found Jessie Gonzalez and the Hornets never looked back.
Dupuy finished with a hat trick and an assist and Angela Bosco had two goals and an assist. Jade Woll had a goal and an assist while Gonzalez, Natalie Deacon, Erin Benson, Nicole Kopsidas, Anne Neville Broadus and Victoria Czenczek each scored. Marina Clark had two assists and Elizabeth Oden also had a helper.
Erica Detweiler netted EMU's goal off a free kick at 42:12 of the first half. Becca Borg made 18 saves in net for the Royals. Eastern Mennonite's season ends at 10-9.
LC out-shot EMU 49-1 and held a 17-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Hornets (19-1) will face Shenandoah University in the ODAC semifinals on Tuesday on Shellenberger Field at a time to be announced. Fourth-seeded Shenandoah defeated #5 Roanoke College 2-0 in another first-round game Saturday.
