HOW IT HAPPENED
Sanchez got the game started early going one-on-one with the goalie in the seventh minute to score Lynchburg's first goal with an assist from Cooke.
With less than 10 minutes in the first half, Wescott chipped the ball right over the keeper and brought the Hornets to a 2-0 lead.
Lynchburg came out eager for another goal with five serious shots in a three minute span. The Hornets were able to capitalize on a corner kick by freshman Taylor Smith (Chesapeake, Va.), which caused a pile up in front of the net and allowed Mertens to sneak in another goal.
The Hornets will match up against Randolph-Macon Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. on Shellenberger field.
