Hornet Women Take Down Marlins 6-3

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's tennis team collected a key 6-3 victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Virginia Wesleyan College at home on Friday.

Senior Betsy Stipa posted a thrilling 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback win at #2 singles. Freshman Carter Vaughn followed Stipa's lead and notched a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4 singles.  Freshman Kelsey Dowling was successful at the #5 flight, winning 6-4,6-0, while senior Hailey Bettencourt earned a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.

The Hornets also played well in doubles action. Vaughn teamed up with junior Madison Dixon to take a hard-fought 8-6 win at #2 doubles and Bettencourt and Dowling garnered an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. Stipa and Junior Melissa Drinkard played tough at #1 doubles and were able to win four games.

LC (3-9/2-8 ODAC) will look to win again when the Hornets take on Emory & Henry College at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its last match of the regular season.
