Day One of NCAA Track Nationals Complete
DELAWARE, OH – Sophomore LaCear Hubbard fell just one spot short of earning all-American honors Thursday at the 2011 Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Rain and lightning hit the area in the afternoon, delaying many events and postponing several others until Friday.
Hubbard qualified for the final in the long jump, but finished ninth, one spot out of All-American status with a jump of 17'11". The top eight finishers in each event take home All-American honors.
Junior James Bell is currently 13th out of 19 student-athletes with 3,234 points in the decathlon. Bell's marks this far include: 100-meter dash - 11.76 (a personal best); long jump - 19'6"; shot put - 37'9.25" (personal best); high jump 6'1.5"; 400 meters - 52.65 (personal best). The 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500 meters are scheduled for Friday.
Senior Jessica Gibbs is currently 19th of 23 with 2,604 points in the heptathlon. Gibbs' marks thus far are as follows: 100 meter hurdles - 15.97; high jump - 4'10.25"; shot put - 32'9", 200 meter dash - 26.44. The long jump, javelin and 800-meters are Friday.
