Q&A With Hornet of the Week Aleshia Washington

The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The twenty-ninth student-athlete in this series is freshman sprinter Aleshia Washington.

In the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Track & Field Championships last weekend, Washington had one of the best days for a Hornet runner. She led off for the 4x100 meter relay team that won the event. and went on to set the school-record in the 100 meter dash, winning in a time of 12.21. Washington also added a second-place finish in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 26.12. She also won the long jump after leaping a distance of 17'1.9". For her efforts, she was named the ODAC Freshman of the Year.

Why did you choose Lynchburg College?
I chose Lynchburg because they gave me a chance to run for LC track and field. The campus is also easy to get around.
What is your favorite moment thus far as a Hornet?
Meeting new people and becoming good friends with a lot of people. Also, being able to be on the track team and getting to compete against big schools.

What do you like most about LC track and field?
I love the team! They are awesome people who I can call my family. The coaches are a big help, and they can help me with any problem inside and outside the track. I can go to them if I want to know how my performance is and how I can improve it.

What is your favorite class or teacher?
My favorite class is English. I like to write about things that I am interested in.

What are your aspirations after graduation?
After graduation I would like to travel and mentor young teenage girls.

What is your favorite thing about LC and this campus?
I love the fact the campus is small, and I don't have to walk far for my classes. I also like how there are activities that are going on every day, so it's impossible to be bored. Since the classes are a nice size, the professors are more helpful if I need anything.
