Track and Field Teams Ranked in Region

NEW ORLEANS, LA – With the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the horizon, the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams find themselves ranked highly in the region.

The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the rankings on Wednesday, and with the Lynchburg men taking the top spot in the South/Southeast Region.

LC currently has a 168.2 point lead over the nearest school in the rankings.  This is due in part to several athletes being ranked in the top 20 in the country.  Tom Sippie is ranked ninth in the 200 meter and sits in 20th for the 400 meter race.  Cody Stanton is in 15th for the 5000 meter run after his efforts this past weekend.  For the jumps, Jared Bloomquist is 10th in the high and Tristan Boysaw is sixth in the triple.  Rachad Davis has also proved to be a top performer in his discipline as he is ranked 15th in the 110 meter hurdles and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

The women moved up two spots this past week, passing ODAC rival Washington and Lee University, to sixth place in the rankings.  Only one ODAC school is ahead of them at this point.  Two athletes rank in the top 20 nationally in helping the Hornets reach this spot.  Aleshia Washington is currently sixth in the 100 meter dash and Kori Penick is 15th for the shot put.

Both teams are off this week as they prepare for the championships.  The meet will start next Friday and conclude on Saturday, at Washington and Lee.
