LC Sweeps Averett to Open CNU Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team opened play Friday afternoon at the two-day Christopher Newport University Invitational, sweeping Averett University 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 in non-conference play.

The Hornets enjoyed a .261 hitting percentage for the match, highlighted by senior Rebecca Loftis slamming 13 kills in just 23 attempts (.438 hitting percentage). Senior Marion Lozano had a hitting percentage of .435 with nine kills, and sophomore Aricquel Payne had 10 kills and six digs.

Senior Rachel Turk had 18 assists while fellow senior Brooke Moughon distributed 15 assists. Senior Molly Deacon and sophomore Brittany Crawford each had 12 digs and freshman Sierra Strathy and Loftis each had three blocks.

Allison Sparks had 14 kills and 12 digs for the Cougars (22-9) and Nicole Barringer had 32 assists.

The Hornets (22-6) will face Cortland State later today at 5 p.m.
