Hornet Volleyball Hits Rough Waters in Newport News
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team played two hard fought matches on day two of the CNU Invitational, dropping both to Moravian and #4 ranked Christopher Newport University.
LC lost the first match against Moravian 25-21, 26-24, 25-23 but had a chance to win all three games. Sophomore Aricquel Payne and senior Rebecca Loftis had nine kills each. Senior Rachel Turk led the Hornets with 19 assists. Sophomore Brittany Crawford and Payne each had ten digs.
Lauren Hostetler had a game-high 11 kills for the Greyhounds (26-6). Kelly Brown had a match-high 31 assists.
The Hornets had a tough time against the Captains, host of the tournament. This is nothing new as the Captains won in three games against all of their opponents in the Invitational.
LC dropped its last game of the tournament 25-19, 25-18, 25-9. The Hornets kept it close early with most of Payne's six kills coming in the first game.
Turk led the Hornets with a season-high seven kills. She also led the team with seven assists. Senior Rachel Huffman had four blocks for LC.
Cory Harris had eight kills for Christopher Newport (32-2). Alyssa Kidd added 16 assists.
Lynchburg (22-9) plays next in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament on Wednesday. Opponent is to be determined.
