LC Volleyball Wins Four-Set Thriller against VWC in ODAC Tourney

LYNCHBURG, VA – The fourth-seeded Lynchburg College volleyball team rebounded to win a four-set decision Wednesday evening over Virginia Wesleyan College in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.

The Marlins won the first game 23-25 and were ahead 18-12 in the second. But the Hornets rallied to take that set 29-27 and took the third and fourth 25-22 and 25-18 to advance.

Sophomore Aricquel Payne delivered an outstanding performance when it mattered most, drilling 22 kills with a .421 hitting percentage and 13 digs. Senior Rebecca Loftis hit 13 kills with four digs and sophomore Brittany Crawford contributed 10 kills and nine digs.

Senior Rachel Turk had 33 assists and 10 digs, while senior Brooke Moughon added 19 assists. Senior Marion Lozano added seven kills and freshman Sierra Strathy had six.

Kala Guy had 14 kills and four blocks for Virginia Wesleyan (19-12). Taylor Allen also had 14 kills and Mallory Slade handed out 32 assists. The Marlin dig leaders were Kerry Johnson (16), Marin Crowder (14) and Slade (10).

Lynchburg moves into the ODAC semifinals to face top-seeded Randolph-Macon College Saturday at a time to be determined. #2 Washington & Lee University squares off with #3 Bridgewater College in the other tournament semifinal. Those two matches and the finals will take place in Ashland, VA Saturday.
