Volleyball earns Ellinger her 200th win with sweep in Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. -- Lynchburg College's volleyball team went undefeated in the Greensboro College Invitational, wrapping up Sunday's competition with straight-set wins over Greensboro and Elizabeth City State to get Elizabeth Ellinger her 200th win as the head coach at her alma mater.

The Hornets received 21 kills from senior outside hitter Mesa Willis (Dabneys, Va.) on the day, and sophomore libero Lauren Stanford (Mechanicsville, Va.) collected 25 digs over the two matches.

Match 1: Lynchburg 3, Greensboro 0 (25-16, 25-13, 26-24)

Match 2: Lynchburg 3, Elizabeth City State 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-6)

Venue: Hanes Gym, Greensboro College, Greensboro, N.C.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hornets used efficient offense to win the day, hitting over .364 in the final set against Greensboro.

  • Lynchburg's Lynn Walsh totaled 25 assists and had eight digs on the day.

  • The Hornets heated up against Elizabeth City State with 42 kills as a team, hitting .478 in the final set for a 25-6 win.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will be back in Lynchburg Sept. 13 to open Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule against the Guilford Quakers at 6:30 p.m. in Turner Gymnasium.
