Volleyball falls 3-1 against Randolph-Macon

Lynchburg, Va.-- The University of Lynchburg volleyball team fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match Tuesday night, 20-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20.

Freshman outside Emma Drake (Newsoms,Va.) led the Hornets at the net with 12 kills and one block.

Junior outside Sydney Frink (Chester, Va.) had a solid night, collecting 11 kills, nine digs, and a service ace. Both Hornet setters -- junior Erin Farina (Crozet, Va.) and sophomore Katie Cornelius (Manassas, Va.) -- earned 22 assists.

Junior libero Lauren Stanford (Mechanicsville,Va.) racked up 23 digs and an ace. Stanford currently ranks second in the ODAC for digs with 345 so far this season.

  • After a slow start, the Hornets tied it up in the middle of the first set, 16-16, after a kill from Drake. Lynchburg grabbed the lead at 21 and took the first set. The Hornets hit a scalding .297 in the chapter.

  • The Yellow Jackets took quick second and third sets from Lynchburg, 25-15 and 25-14. Randolph-Macon had a sky-high .556 kill percentage in the third set.

  • Lynchburg closed the gap on R-MC in the fourth, bringing it to 20-16 before the Yellow Jackets rallied for the win. Randolph-Macon's front-row defense converted six blocks in the set.



Lynchburg will travel to Buena Vista, Va., on Thursday, Oct. 11 to face off with the Knights of Southern Virginia at 7 p.m. in a non conference matchup. The match was rescheduled from Sept. 14 due to Hurricane Florence.
