Volleyball swings past SVU in non-conference match

Buena Vista, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team started out hot and rode that momentum to a 25-19, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18 non-conference win at Southern Virginia Thursday night.

Junior outside Sydney Frink (Chester, Va.) notched her eighth double-double of the season with 13 digs and 11 kills. Junior middle Disa Haugsdahl (Warrenton, Va.) also had a big match, totaling nine kills, four blocks, and three aces, while hitting .467 on the attack.

Junior libero Lauren Stanford (Mechanicsville, Va.) led the Hornet defense with 22 digs.

  • Lynchburg tipped off the match on fire, hitting .500 in the first set. Frink tallied five kills in the set.

  • Haugsdahl powered the Hornet offense in the second set with five kills over a 9-2 run that tied the frame at 16, but SVU rallied to take the chapter.

  • Lynchburg ended the third on a 5-1 run after a back-and-forth affair was knotted at 20, and the Hornets ended the match with a 5-0 run in the fourth on a serving run by junior setter Erin Farina (Crozet, Va.).



Lynchburg will continue its Fall Break roadtrip Friday, Oct. 12 with a trip to Catholic University of America. The Hornets will take on No. 23 Christopher Newport at 6 p.m. with a match against the host Cardinals to follow.
