FOREST, Va. -- Lynchburg College's women's cross country squad heads into the season with a strong core of returners, highlighted by returning All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference harriers Morgan Alvis (Rustburg, Va.) and Samantha Schreiber (Gladys, Va.).

Thanks to the quick-footed returners, coach Jim Sprecher's group finished tied for fourth place in the ODAC's preseason coaches' poll.

Alvis, a junior, posted the team's top time in the 2016 South/Southeast regional meet, finishing 24th with a 23:32.8 finish in the 6k race.

This time around, Coach Sprecher's group will look to send more runners to regionals, bolstered by a sizable incoming class.

The Hornets begin their season Friday, Sept. 1 at the Covered Bridge Invite in Boone, N.C.
