Blacksburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College's men's and women's cross country programs enjoyed a banner day at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday.
The Hornets finished as the top Division III program in both the men's and women's side, the LC women topping two-time defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee by eight points.
Samantha Schreiber (Gladys, Va.) set the pace for the Hornet women, coming in 29th in the 6k race at 22:55.8 to lead the team to a seventh-place tally.
Morgan Watson (Concord, Va.) and Michela Cholak (Ocean Township, N.J.) both also posted top 50 finishes, coming in 41st (23:31.8) and 46th (23:42.9), respectively. LC bested Division I VMI and Division II King (Tenn.) in addition to the Division III competition.
On the men's side, LC placed eighth behind the scholarship programs. Tristan Lucy-Speidel (Fort Valley, Va.) ran the 8k course in 26:17.8 for a team-best finish of 51st.
Lynchburg is next in action Sept. 29 when the Hornet teams head to The Steel City, Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University.
