Allen Smith

Allen Smith returned to the Hill City in 2024 to take the helm of the men’s golf team, serving as the Head Coach and Compliance Director. 

In his first season as the lead man for the Hornets, Smith oversaw Eddie Coffren V earn the 2025 NCAA DIII Individual National Championship, the first ever in program history. Smith guided the squad to become 2025 ODAC Champions and achieve seventh place as a group in the 2025 NCAA DIII Championship, the highest finishing placement for the program since 1980.

Before arriving at Lynchburg, Smith was the Head Men's Golf Coach for Guilford College. While with the Quakers, he mentored the 2024 Individual ODAC Champion, James Alden. In his previous role at Guilford College, he excelled in leading fundraising efforts, enhancing alumni engagement through social media, and managing the day-to-day operations of the men’s golf program. Smith also played a key role in building relationships with recruits and overseeing tournament operations for the O’Briant Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament.

Before Guilford College, Smith was an Assistant Golf Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Lynchburg from August 2021 to May 2023. During his tenure, he coached both the men’s and women’s teams, focusing on student-athlete development and recruitment. Additionally, he managed game operations and maintained strong ties with university alumni.

In the summer of 2020, Allen worked as a Tournament Operations/Rules Official with the Georgia State Golf Association, where they organized junior golf tournaments and enforced tournament regulations.

Smith completed his undergraduate career at Hampden-Sydney College, where he served as team captain, earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors, and achieved Academic All-American status. His leadership extended to roles in the Faculty Athletic Committee and active participation in community service with Habitat for Humanity.
