Lexington, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association named University of Lynchburg director of digital media Joe Hutzler its broadcast media finalist for the 2019 Grant Burger Media Award, the AVCA announced Wednesday.
The organization also named Volleyball Magazine its 2019 award winner.
Serving as "The Voice of the Hornets," Hutzler has overseen more than 40 live webcasts for Lynchburg volleyball matches in his four years at the institution, and he has provided play-by-play for all but a handful of those on the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network.
His work extended to video features and social media content, which have vastly improved the program's reach, along with occasional road coverage of the Hornets' play.
In its finalist capsules, the AVCA highlighted Hutzler's versatility with webcasting, video post-production and social media, and his efforts to cover volleyball along with Lynchburg's 23 other varsity athletic programs.
The Grant Burger Media Award, named for the former AVCA associate director, aims to recognize media members who have helped advance the sport of volleyball consistently across a variety of media.
