Lynchburg athletics announces staff additions for 2019-20

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg and director of athletics Jon Waters are thrilled to announce the addition of 17 new staff members to the Hornets' athletics department family for the 2019-20 season. Introducing the new faces of Lynchburg athletics:

Baseball 

- Oscar Garcia joins the Hornets as a graduate assistant. The Venezuela native and former Concord University baseball standout will pursue a master's of business administration. 

Men's Basketball 

- Bobby Ford rejoins the Lynchburg coaching staff as a graduate assistant in Lynchburg's master's of business administration after serving as the team's student assistant in 2017-18. Ford was a three-year member of the team and was known for his 3-point sharpshooting.

- 2014 Lynchburg graduate Dylan Hall moves into a part-time assistant coach after an exceptional two-year career as a member of Lynchburg's basketball team.

Women's Basketball 

- Jessica Wall joins a successful Lynchburg coaching staff after a stellar four-year career at UNC Asheville, where she holds the all-time record for career 3-pointers.  She will be a graduate assistant enrolled in the master's of educational leadership. 

Men's Lacrosse

- Former All-American attackman Evan Lombardo joins the coaching staff as a graduate assistant. The New Jersey native will be enrolled in Lynchburg's master's of educational leadership program.

- Seamus McDonald joins the Hornets' staff after an exceptional career at Lynchburg that saw an All-America nod from the long-stick midfielder. He will be enrolled in the master's of educational leadership program.

- Ranked in Lynchburg's all-time top 10 in both saves and save percentage, former goalie CJ Santora joins the coaching staff as a graduate assistant and will be matriculating through the master's of business administration program.

Women's Lacrosse

- Erik Hultgren joins the Hornet coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2019-20 season. He graduated from Seton Hill University in 2016 with a degree in sports management. He will pursue his master's in educational leadership.

Men's Soccer 

- Ryan Pikunas, a three-time All-ODAC defender, joins the coaching staff as a graduate assistant and is enrolled in the master's of business administration program.

Women's Soccer

- Rachel Cooke, a 2018 Lynchburg graduate, joins the coaching staff after a fine five-year career for the Hornets and she is enrolled in the master's of education in science education program.

Softball 

- 2019 NCAA Division III Player of the Year Mackenzie Chitwood joins the coaching staff for the 2020 season and will pursue her master's in public health.

Men's and Women's Swimming

- Aaron Green, an All-American sprinter from Widener University joins the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season and will pursue his master's of business administration.

Men's and Women's Track and Field

- Bryce Koo, a 2018 Lynchburg graduate and four-year member of the Lynchburg men's track & field team, joins the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Koo will pursue a master's in educational leadership.

Volleyball 

- Hannah Givens joins the Hornets coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach. She graduated from Wingate University this spring with a degree in political science and will pursue her master's in nonprofit leadership. 

Sports Information

- Mark Weaver joins the Lynchburg sports information staff as a graduate assistant. The New York native earned his degree in sports media from Susquehanna University and will pursue his master's in business administration.

Strength & Conditioning

- Greg Wilson, a 2014 graduate of Lynchburg joins the Hornets' strength & conditioning staff for the 2019-20 season. Wilson most recently worked at Newberry College as a part-time assistant strength coach. He will pursue a master's in public health. 

- Brian Bonacci joins the strength & conditioning staff as a part-time assistant and will also be assisting with gameday management. Bonacci was a four-year member of the football team at Iowa State, graduating in 2016 with a degree in kinesiology. He comes to Lynchburg after serving as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at Wagner College in New York, N.Y.
