Lynchburg Hornets Athletics Identity
University of Lynchburg’s intercollegiate athletics programs are the Lynchburg Hornets. On first reference in print or online, “University of Lynchburg” is preferred. “Lynchburg” and “the Hornets” are acceptable on subsequent references.
‘Burg: An abbreviated version of Lynchburg generally avoided in publications but widely used in cheers. Acceptable on social media where space may be limited. Also acceptable in broadcasts as an alternate reference.
UL and U of L: Shorthand monikers are not used in print materials or in broadcasts. If Lynchburg must be abbreviated on displays such as scoreboards or scorebugs, please use LYN.
Lynchburg College and LC: Acceptable in historical references to Lynchburg athletics. University of Lynchburg was known as Lynchburg College from 1919 to July 1, 2018.
Lady Hornets: The term “Lady Hornets” is not a recognized nickname and is not an acceptable term reference toward any Lynchburg Hornets team.
Affiliations: University of Lynchburg athletics programs compete in NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, a Forest, Va.-based league comprised of 15 full members and two sport-specific associate members. Lynchburg’s equestrian program competes in both the National Collegiate Equestrian Association and Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association, as well as the ODAC championships.
Colors: University of Lynchburg's official colors are Hornet Red (Pantone 185; #E4002B) and gray (Pantone Cool Gray 6, #A7A8AA). Black and white are also used as accents.

Media Policies
Photo/Video Policy
Parties interested in photographing or shooting video of any University of Lynchburg athletic team will be required to wear a media pass on the sideline. Please visit the press box before the start of the contest. Pictures may not be sold, and it is encouraged that the images be shared with the university’s sports information office. Persons with media passes are expected to show sportsmanship, no cheering, talking to officials or negative comments are allowed as you are considered working media. Failure to comply will result in sideline privileges being revoked.
Interview Policy:
All interviews should be coordinated through the sports information office. Players and coaches are available to media throughout the week, but please allow 24 hours notice. Postgame interviews are coordinated following the event and can be conducted on the fields/court or outside the locker rooms. In certain circumstances, a cool-down period may be required prior to players and coaches being made available to the media.
Media Credentials:
Please contact the sports information office in advance if you are planning to attend a game and would like a seat in the press areas at any of our facilities.
Television/Radio Policy:
If you wish to provide television, radio or webcast coverage of an athletic event at Lynchburg, please contact the sports information staff at least 24 hours prior to the event. Phone lines and Internet connections are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at most of our athletic facilities.
