Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College's baseball program and first-year head coach Lucas Jones are excited to announce the slate of contests for the 2018 season.
The season will begin on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a trip to Buena Vista to play Southern Virginia University in a doubleheader. Other non-conference highlights include dates with perennial power Methodist University (away Feb. 14, home Feb. 27) and the home-opener on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Mt. St. Vincent.
The Hornets will start conference play Saturday, March 3 at Guilford. Things don't get any easier on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference slate, as Lynchburg will play host to Shenandoah, which was ranked No. 1 in Division III at one point last year and qualified for the NCAA tournament, March 10 and Roanoke, which won the conference tournament and reached the Division III Final Four, March 14.
Saturday, March 24 will be special for Jones, as the Hornets welcome Washington and Lee to Fox Field. Jones spent the past two seasons as the Generals' head coach, leading them to a pair of ODAC tournament berths and a title game appearance.
The Hornets will wrap up the regular season at Eastern Mennonite with an April 28 doubleheader before preparing for the ODAC tournament, which will feature a new format in 2018. The fresh look will result in an eight-team tournament rather than the traditional six-team, double-elimination setup. The first round, a three-game series, will be played on higher seeds' home fields, and the final four will play a double-elimination tournament at the traditional site, Lynchburg City Stadium.
