Amherst, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team competed in the program's second-ever National Collegiate Equestrian Association scrimmage Friday afternoon, dropping a 6-2 decision to No. 6 South Carolina at the Harriett Howell Rogers Riding Center.
Junior Dani Herzberg (Beachwood, Ohio) earned both of the day's points for Lynchburg.
Freshmen Taylor Herzog (Williamsburg, Va.), Saylor Hardin (Forest City, N.C.), and Cameron Sabolovic (Rutherfordton, N.C.) also competed for the Hornets.
In Lynchburg's second ride of the afternoon, Herzberg turned in a 73-point ride atop Luciano on the flat, besting the Gamecocks' Lousia Brackett for Lynchburg's point in that portion of the program. She earned most outstanding performer honors for equitation on the flat on the day.
Herzberg followed with a tremendous ride on Snips over fences, scoring an 85-point ride to best USC's Bailey Imbus.
Lynchburg riders performed significantly better than in the program's first NCEA scrimmage, scoring 517 points compared to 493 in their debut with the format. South Carolina's riders totaled 574 points on the day.
Lynchburg equestrian's next competition will be in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Competition format, heading to Bridgewater's IHSA event tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 27.
