Ferrum, Va. -- Four University of Lynchburg field hockey players notched multi-point games as the Hornets cruised past Ferrum, 6-0, for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference win Wednesday night on the road.
Lynchburg out-shot its opponent, 37-3, and the Hornets have now outscored their ODAC opponents, 26-4, in their five conference games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ferrum's defense held fast early, but Lynchburg broke through in the 23rd minute when Chiappazzi found Lerro for the go-ahead goal.
The Hornets tacked on three more goals in the next three minutes as Lerro, Simpao, and Claybaugh all found the back of the cage. Senior midfielder Kayla Copeman (Williamsburg, Va.) assisted the fourth score. Lynchburg took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
The Hornets tacked on two more goals in the second half as Simpao assisted a 49th-minute score by freshman midfielder Kaylie Truitt (Lewes, Del.). Claybaugh put the cherry on top of the win in the 63rd minute thanks to Chiappazzi's assist.
Lynchburg's four goalkeepers combined for the team's fifth shutout of the season. Freshman Kiersten Kirtley (Fredericksburg, Va.) picked up her first-career save.
Lynchburg will return to Shellenberger Field Saturday, Oct. 20 for a Homecoming matchup against ODAC rival Bridgewater. The whistle blows at 2:30 p.m.
