Lynchburg, Va. -- By way of its unbeaten record through the Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season, the University of Lynchburg field hockey team earned the right to play host to this coming weekend's conference championship.
The semifinal games will take place Friday, Nov. 2 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field, and the championship is slated for 6 p.m. the following evening, Saturday, Nov. 3. Admission for each day is $10 for adults and $5 for children; students of participating schools will be admitted free of charge by showing their student IDs.
Top-seeded Lynchburg will take on No. 4 seed Roanoke in Friday's early contest, followed by No. 2 seed Shenandoah and third-seeded Washington and Lee. The game's winners will square off for the title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Roanoke defeated Randolph-Macon, 1-0, Tuesday in first-round action, while Washington and Lee moved into the semifinals with a 3-0 win over Bridgewater.
Lynchburg enters postseason play riding a nine-game winning streak that began October 6 with a road win at Randolph-Macon. The Hornets carry a 13-5 overall record and an 8-0 ODAC mark on the year. Lynchburg has outscored its opponents 75-23 this season.
The Hornets are in search of the program's ODAC-leading 19th league championship but their first since 2014, the last in a streak of nine-straight conference titles.
