Gilbert, Ariz. -- Fourteen University of Lynchburg field hockey players earned spots on the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Wednesday afternoon.
In sum, 1,746 student-athletes from 147 programs were included on the list, reaching the required 3.3 cumulative GPA through the Fall 2018 semester.
Lynchburg's three seniors -- Kayla Copeman (Williamsburg, Va.), Isabella Eldridge (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), and Nikki Simpao (Stafford, Va.) -- all earned the distinction of four years on the National Academic Squad.
The Hornets were also dubbed a National Academic Team by the NFHCA this March by way of their 3.0-or-better team GPA.
Lynchburg paired the success in the classroom with success on the field, claiming the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship and winning a game in the NCAA Division III tournament. The Hornets finished the season with a 16-6 record.
The NFHCA's academic awards continue through this spring with the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction and the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete.
