Gilbert, Ariz. -- Jackie Lerro's fantastic week propelled University of Lynchburg's star forward to yet another award -- the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Division III offensive player of the week honor -- the NFHCA office announced Wednesday.
The junior from Royersford, Pa., totaled seven goals and two assists in the Hornets' 2-1 week, a period that included wins over No. 2 Rowan and Stevenson.
Lerro scored four goals and had one assist in Lynchburg's 6-1 win over Stevenson Tuesday. Five days later, she followed that performance with a hat trick and also assisted the game-winner in Lynchburg's 4-3 win against Rowan, avenging a pair of losses to the Profs a season ago. It was Lynchburg's first victory over the southern New Jersey school since 1983.
It is the second-career NFHCA weekly accolade for Lerro, who also earned the honor Oct. 17, 2018.
Lynchburg's field hockey team carries a 7-3 record headed into Friday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener against Randolph-Macon, and the Hornets received votes in this week's NFHCA top 20 poll.
