HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the game tied at 16 midway through the first half, junior forward Cody Lang (Madison Heights, Va.) kicked off an 8-0 Hornets run that gave Lynchburg a lead it would never relinquish.

  • A last-second 3-pointer by freshman guard C.J. Rosser (Lynchburg, Va.) put the Hornets ahead by 12, 47-35, at the half.

  • Case sank a 3 with 12:44 remaining to put Lynchburg ahead, 66-46, but the Seahawks responded with an extended 27-6 run that cut the lead to 1 after Jordan Alston's 3 with 5:56 to go. The game was within three possessions the rest of the way

  • Case's layup with 2:28 remaining gave the Hornets an 8-point advantage, but St. Mary's mounted another 7-0 run to cut the lead to 1 again with just 1:17 left. Lynchburg's defense managed a stop, and Wrighten sank a pair of free throws to bring the score to its final standing with 4 seconds to play.
