Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's basketball team saw its 20-point lead trimmed to 1 in the second half but held on for an 83-80 non-conference win over St. Mary's (Md.) Sunday afternoon.
Senior guard Jesse Case (Leesburg, Va.) dumped in a team-high 18 points to go with four assists to lead the way for Lynchburg.
Senior forward Connor Schroeder (Blacksburg, Va.), senior wing Austin Wrighten (Woodbridge, Va.), and junior guard Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.) all scored in double figures as well. Wrighten led the Hornets with seven rebounds, and Greene and senior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) both dished out five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the game tied at 16 midway through the first half, junior forward Cody Lang (Madison Heights, Va.) kicked off an 8-0 Hornets run that gave Lynchburg a lead it would never relinquish.
A last-second 3-pointer by freshman guard C.J. Rosser (Lynchburg, Va.) put the Hornets ahead by 12, 47-35, at the half.
Case sank a 3 with 12:44 remaining to put Lynchburg ahead, 66-46, but the Seahawks responded with an extended 27-6 run that cut the lead to 1 after Jordan Alston's 3 with 5:56 to go. The game was within three possessions the rest of the way
Case's layup with 2:28 remaining gave the Hornets an 8-point advantage, but St. Mary's mounted another 7-0 run to cut the lead to 1 again with just 1:17 left. Lynchburg's defense managed a stop, and Wrighten sank a pair of free throws to bring the score to its final standing with 4 seconds to play.
Lynchburg will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play next Saturday, Nov. 17, with a matinee contest against crosstown rival Randolph. The Hill City Rivalry is set for a 2 p.m. tip.
