Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's golf team carded a two-day total of 22-over-par 598 (299-299) for a third-place team finish and placed two Hornets in the top 10 Monday and Tuesday at the Tom Kinder Memorial, hosted by Bridgewater College at Lakeview Golf Club.
Senior Branson Terrell (Lynchburg, Va.) finished 1-under (71-72--143) in a tie for third, and junior Carter Old (Chesapeake, Va.) was 2-over (74-72--146) to place knotted for eighth. Both posted even-par 72s in Tuesday's final round.
Terrell's second-straight top-five finish was highlighted by 11 birdies over the two rounds, including a string of three on holes 2-5 Tuesday.
Old birdies his last two holes, Nos. 4 and 5, Tuesday to clinch a sub-300 round for the team.
Hodgert finished tied for 24th (78-75--153), while Ailsworth shot 76-80--156 to place in a tie for 31st.
The Hornets edged out fourth-place Mary Washington by seven strokes and finished behind only tournament champion Hampden-Sydney (288-289--577) and host Bridgewater (291-290--581) in the team standings. H-SC's John Hatcher Ferguson took medalist honors, edging teammate Hunter Martin in a one-hole playoff.
Lynchburg's golf team will continue its fall season October 15-16 at the Virginia State Golf Association Intercollegiate Championships at Sleepy Hole Golf Club in Suffolk, Va.
